Ruby Soccer and ManagerSim

While answering to Patrick's comment on this post about having ManagerSim's star system on Ruby Soccer, I realized that my answer deserved a new post.

ManagerSim was our start point, as it was the best free online soccer management game we've ever played. That's why our first version will be similar to MS in many aspects, and of course the best ones will be kept or improved over time, but we'll also add new features and change or remove some others.

That said, the answer to your question, Patrick, is no, we don't have plans for that, but it doesn't mean we'll never have the star system in the game. Keep in mind that we'll consider all user suggestions we receive and implement the more popular ones and those we think will make our game better. The game won't be that great if we don't have a great community!

As you guys can imagine we already have a long future tasks list and this list is likely to grow faster when we have our game up and running along with its forum. We only need to finish the players evolution system and do some cleaning tasks. Stay tuned, the big announcement will happen someday in the next week!

Cheers.

I used to like the star system and I hope one day RS will use it, but for now I'm just dying to play it the way you guys conceived it.

What would you guys think about allowing managers to put their portrait beside the club, instead of the computer or generic icon like in SS? It might pose some ethical problems, but if you make it an option on the managers profile and give yourselves the power to deny offensive or fake pictures, it could work. It would be uploaded via the profile, then appear beside whichever club that manager is currently managing, and when he leaves the club the computer icon would appear. A generic icon would appear if a manager doesn't want his pic there. It would certainly help to create a more open and involved community, which is the most important thing. We are social animals, if we wanted to play people we don't know, we would stick to Fifa 2007 :P Atleast require people to wear a collared shirt for the professional look? We can't have Stu May with his Hawaiian shirts...

Certain clothing that managers might wear in portraits may also not blend well with the background and thus ruin the cosmetic appearance of the page. You'll probably have different skins, so maybe require one of three different colored shirts only? I don't know....

Make that an option do donators only.

I don't know if a picture instead of the icon is a good ideia, maybe a picture in the manager info screen could work in the future.

About what Danilo said, well, I was hoping to have the game online this week, but unfortunately we weren't able to work on RS this weekend. That means we'll have a lot of work to meet our friday deadline, but we'll give it a try.

Cheers.

On the forum, the user can configure his avatar using a special system. As for the team icon, i dont think it would be a good idea for now. I also really like the idea of only 2 types of icons there in the list: computers or humans. I wonder if most of you feel the same.

At least I agree with you Danilo...

ya i say lets keep the CPU or Human managed teams icons the same. But i do agree that it would be nice to customize our avatars in the forums.
