Donations and Donators

Our game will be free. But, of course, to maintain a server is not free. That is one of the reasons for our "Donations" section on this blog (and we will also have it on our game site).
We will start a server account very soon, and all donations are welcome.

ps: we are still thinking about treats we can offer donators within RubySoccer community. But make no mistake: donators will not have any kind of gameplay advantages, or RubySoccer would not be completely free. The only game advantage that we may consider is to add the "donator status" as one criteria in a manager job application (so donators would have an advantage point in disputes to manage the team they want).

This statement is a contradiction.

What he meant is that we are studying a way to make donations part of the algorithm responsible for deciding which of the applying managers will get the job. It will not be the only factor and is not even decided yet. Even if we use it that would make no difference on how successful you are in the game.

But of course, if most of you guys don't like this ideia we're not going to use it.

Cheers.

Well, I thought about that possibility (contradiction) when I was writing the post, after all, I AM a computer scientist and therefore I tend to have a logical point of view of my statements.

But it is only a contradiction if you consider team management disputes as part of the gameplay. And maybe we won´t (consider). Anyway, it is like Gabriel and the post said, we are only thinking about it.

Hi all,

Anonymous was right about the contradiction but I like the idea of donators getting a few perks here and there in the game, its an incentive to pay up which ultimately will keep the game alive when server costs become too much for the owners (like it did with managersim - if that was the reason Peter closed it, who knows). Here is a little Perk I am thinking of now before I goto bed, make a Donators lounge in the Forums.

Best wishes,

If I get as addicted to RubySoccer as I was to SoccerSim in the old days, you guys can count on me. Do you have any idea when it's going to be online, Gabriel? Cheers!

i say make this site pay to play and avoid all these potential issues :P

just kidding, you guys are the experts and i'm sure you'll figure something out.

good luck!

Our deadline is still end of August.

a small add:

"this stament is a contradiction" would make a good Prairie Dog (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHjFxJVeCQs) remix.

Great! Only a few days ahead.

For those who want to remember "the good old days", you can find some Managersim screen shots and even an old Soccersim one at this rusty website I tried to make years ago: http://www.soccersim.kit.net

24 days and counting! ;-)

In my opinion, donators need to have some kind of advantage and this one suggested by Danilo is a subtle, but important thing. I think it is better than to let donators choose more tactical options than a non-donator, for example. :)

Sell Ruby Soccer gold on eBay, so people can buy swords and all that crap with it:

05:32 GK passes the ball to Ronaldo
05:46 Ronaldo gets beheaded by Pedro's sword of doom +3
06:12 Pedro scores!

Another way to get a bit of money is to sell merchandise, like t-shirts, mugs, etc.

Either way, I say Danilo will pay for it all. He can always sell his car, computer or body.

If you are considering Donations, my advise is to use SMS donation system, I play in a free Lineage server and they had some donation problems until implement this solution. Check http://www.smskambi.com/en/

And keep up the good work, I'm looking forward to see this game online.

PS. You could give some previleges to first gamers as a reward to tips and ideas that are giving by us.

is there a bigger reward than have your ideas implemented ? :) just kidding.
its difficult to think about something to reward the great feedback we are receiving from you guys, when we come to the fact that we are talking about a free game.
but we will sure try to come up with something cool to encourage our top contributors :) no gameplay advantages, though. this statement is not a contradiction
